Christi Corbett has a guest post up at Pimp My Novel about writing time/space. I admit, I also had her romanticized vision of a writer's space/time before I became a full time writer. Now things are very different.
I will admit that I usually get anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half of uninterrupted writing time in the afternoons (during the week, at least) while Bean naps, but in the evenings and on weekends when Hubby is there to help so I have extra writing time, I actually get less done.
I'm going to do what Christi did and keep track of my writing time interruptions to share with you next week.
Do you get uninterrupted writing time? If so, how much?
I'm quite sure that more success creates more time, etc. I've seen pictures of the places where well-read authors work and descriptions of their days and it's much more akin to what others aspire to. One of my favorite authors, who has sold a LOT of books, owns a second home 2 miles from where he lives that he uses simply to write in without distractions. He literally has a desk, a small refrigerator and nothing else in the home. He also cranks out a book per year.
ReplyDeleteSo the moral of the story is sell a lot of books and the 'professionalism' of your day will begin to grow.
Yeah, I guess writing isn't the only thing that gives you what you need once the work is done....
ReplyDeleteMy dedicated writing time comes in the wee hours of the morning ... my husband works 3rd shift, and I have a two year old daughter ... so after midnight-ish when my little one goes to sleep but before my husband gets home is my main time to write. Problem is, that's a pretty sleepy time of day!
ReplyDeleteI've stayed up late to write, too. When the baby's asleep and the Hubby's asleep is sometimes the best time for me to be productive, even if all I get is an hour!
