NaNo Update

Well, I hit 20,000 words last night, and I'm on my way to 21,000.  Hooray!

My week was not as productive as I would've liked, but I'm hoping Week Three will be much better for me.  This will be the week that helps me get caught up, I think.  I got a lot of work done this past week, so I should be able to scribble like mad.  By the end of the week I hope to be ahead in my word count.

As I've said before, I hate going into the week of Thanksgiving behind in my word count, so I'll step it up this week and get where I want to be so I'm not feeling overwhelmed for Thanksgiving.

How's your word count?

  1. Just shy of 26,000 and what made me have to stop yesterday and take a day off was the sudden realization of the full shape of my novel. I still don't quite know how acts II and III will unfold, but with the completion of what I did on Saturday, I finished the first act. It was exciting but also set off a chain reaction. I know it's policy to just write and not stop, but it was rather necessary. Without at least a day to organize my thoughts and sort through the flood of possibilities, it was going to turn into a Joyce-esque chaos of words. And part of me just had to enjoy the sensation.

  2. Yes, the idea is to write and not stop, but as an avid outliner, I am a big advocate of taking a moment (or a day, as in your case) to know where you're going next. Otherwise, you may write yourself into a corner and get frustrated.
