Let's just get that out of the way right now.

Right beside my bed is a two-shelf cube stuffed to the breaking point with unread books. It's the only place in the house where genres rub shoulders.

Each bookcase has its own job. One holds my favorite SF, arranged by favorite author, and then by size. And asthetic value. Then my less-favorite but still beloved in the next case, and so forth.

My non-fiction shelves are strictly arranged by category - science, mythology, etc - and broken out within the shelves by subject - i.e., physics, astronomy, cosmology, etc. Size rules here, too.

And you do not want to see the complicated shuffle and the agnony that goes into having to rearrange things to fit new books! LOL. Do I kick this author onto the second-best shelves? Do I just weed out some of their second-best books instead? I had this set of subjects beautifully arranged until this silly wrong-sized book appeared....

Amazingly, I can find absolutely any book I need in less than five seconds. We'll see if that continues when I pass the billion-books threshold...Dana Hunterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00890312745525306991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969403722930208914.post-2925972157731523822008-08-04T11:01:00.000-04:002008-08-04T11:01:00.000-04:00Oh, PC, I couldn't do that. It's the obsessive-compulsiveness in me, I guess.Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12268407996242055175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969403722930208914.post-83653146051575985922008-08-04T10:58:00.000-04:002008-08-04T10:58:00.000-04:00I hate to say it, but with both my music AND my bo...I hate to say it, but with both my music AND my books, I like to leave them relatively unorganized. I just really enjoying finding forgotten 'treasures' as I look for things I need.Mike at The Big Stickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11510309563965977831noreply@blogger.com
